We are excited that you are taking our Beginners Course, and we know that it can feel overwhelming. Don’t worry though, the movements you are learning in class come up every single class you will take, so you will be able to refine your movements over time.

If you want to practice more on your own, here are some videos that detail each of the movements and you can practice them from your living room. Be mindful of your space, clear chairs and tables out of the way, and have fun!

Ginga and Esquivas

Ginga is our most basic movement in capoeira. It is said that your ginga is your signature; it’s that unique to everyone. Every movement in capoeira starts from the ginga.

The esquivas are what you use to escape from attacks, and blend into the conversation of attack and defend.

Round Kicks

Round kicks are foundational movements that we practice in every single class. They are an important piece of the conversation and contribute to the flow and spirals of the game. Here are a few of the most fundamental:

Ground Movements

Capoeira is played as much on the ground as it is standing. Here is one of the most foundational movements we use on the ground: Descida Trocando Negativa Rolê
